Annual Performance Reviews

Below is feedback taken from my annual reviews provided from my manager.

David is a strong contributor and has even more in him to help change how "Infrastructure & End User Services" operates in the future. This year David carried many of the tools development projects forward and generally contributed to periods of high performance within the team. David is also very generous with his time and always willing to go above and beyond supporting hands-on work when others are unable to do so.
Gino C. (2021-2022)
Director, IT of Data Center Managment - Qualcomm Inc.
David continues to be one of the most diversly-skilled members of the Data Center Management team. David remains my go-to person for new/automated solutions to improve processes. His adaptability and focus on secure, scalable solutions has helped the group keep up with increasing workloads and giving others better visibility into critical conditions. He's earned and maintains trust from IT and Mission Critical Facilities engineers.

About Me

Outside of my professional pursuits, I am a Father, Husband and my hobby is Saltwater Fish and Coral keeping. I am a baseball player in an adult league and love going on hikes. These activities fuel my creativity and help me maintain a balanced approach to life and work.

My Experience

On December 15, 2024. The subdivision of my team was dissolved at which point I joined the Unix Configuration Management team which is another subdivision of the Server Management Group.

In my capacity as an IT Engineer, Staff, within the Server Management Group (SMG) at Qualcomm, I have played a pivotal role in steering critical IT infrastructure initiatives. My role has required close collaboration with key stakeholders, including Managers and Directors of SMG, IT Operations Services (ITOS), IT Network Group (ITNET), Data Management Group (DMG), and the Mission Critical Facilities Team (MCFT). Additionally, I have consistently delivered project updates through PowerPoint presentations to the Vice President of IT (Infrastructure & End-User Services) and Senior Directors and Managers of IT during Critical Initiatives Meetings.

My responsibilities have encompassed a combination of project-based and operational tasks, with a focus on enhancing server infrastructure, optimizing performance, and ensuring seamless operations. Key contributions and responsibilities include:

  • Project Management: Successfully led various projects and programs, spanning vendor management, software development, and hardware qualifications for server infrastructure, ensuring adherence to timelines and objectives.

  • Vendor Qualifications - Lenovo: Qualified Lenovo as a vendor, including their next-generation server products and XClarity Administrator and Orchestrator software for deployment at Qualcomm. Collaborated closely with Lenovo's development team to address LDAP integration issues and enhance the functionality of their software and firmware, including Warranty, OVP, and As-Built APIs.

  • Manage Flex Capacity Program: Oversaw a fleet of 1500 servers of various configurations, used for planned maintenance, tech refreshes, and project kickoffs during purchase order fulfillment. Developed applications to manage and track utilization, monitor server health, and automate configurations.

  • Manage Factory Express Automation: Collaborated with vendors and OEMs to configure on-board management systems with baseline configuration templates, facilitating zero-touch provisioning post-hardware installation.

  • Manage Evaluation & Testing Environment: Evaluated and qualified server products, management software, and patches/updates. Worked closely with OEMs to resolve issues and enhance software based on feedback. Ensured compatibility with various operating systems (Linux, Windows, VMware) for deployment.

  • Manage OEM and 3rd Party Support Coverages: Developed automation tools to track OEM and third-party support start and expiration dates for all Qualcomm servers globally. Utilized DCIM (IT Advisor), CMDB (ServiceNow), and Vendor API data to collect and maintain information, generating reports in MS PowerBI for annual maintenance contract reviews.

  • Automation / DevOps: Developed and maintained a suite of tools, APIs, integration scripts, and automation solutions, including managing GitHub repositories, Jenkins services, Grafana services, Prometheus services, and websites and APIs hosted on Linux and Windows systems. Managed services for PagerDuty and GitHub.

  • Server Power Metrics: Created an application and API to dynamically onboard and off-board servers into the Prometheus HTTP Service Discovery. Balanced endpoints across a federated Prometheus configuration, enhancing enabling a scalable method to collecting power utilization observability.

  • Technical Writing: Developed and maintained standards, procedures, and knowledge base articles, ensuring consistency and documentation of best practices.

  • Carry-over Duties from Data Center Operation Team: Continued to develop and maintain tools, APIs, integration scripts, and automation solutions for the Data Center Operation Team, managing GitHub repositories, Jenkins services, Grafana services, Prometheus services, and script servers. I also oversee services for PagerDuty and GitHub.

My role as an IT Engineer, Staff, has underscored my commitment to innovation, excellence in project management, and efficient operations within a complex IT infrastructure environment, contributing significantly to the success of Qualcomm's server management initiatives.
